Three Ways To Improve Your Home's Curb Appeal

by: Ashley A Icamen

Imagine yourself scouting for the perfect new home for your family. Just what things would you look for when scouting houses? When hopping from one neighborhood to another, your first impression of a certain house actually plays a big role in influencing your choice. In real estate terminology, this first impression actually refers to a house’s curb appeal. This is how a prospective buyer would see a house for sale. If you are the buyer, well, you would naturally look for a house that has much curb appeal. So, if you are the seller, then you should increase your the curb appeal of your property as much as possible.

You may think to yourself that the appearance of your property from the outside is not as important as what it can offer prospective buyers on the inside. But this it not true at all. It is the exterior of the property that will catch the attention of prospective buyers in the first place. If your property is unkempt and unappealing to the eye, then you will definitely miss out on a lot of prospective buyers. This may just be the façade of the whole structure, but this is what buyers see at first bat. You should then do something about the exterior of your property.

There are three things you have to look out for when you are attempting to improve the curb appeal of your property. The first thing is the porch. Every single aspect about the porch should scream, “Come and take a look inside!” at every passing buyer. Thus, you should make sure that your door is in tiptop shape. Keep it clean and well-polished. Your windows should also be kept spick and span. If you have a porch swing, make sure

to take out whatever cobwebs it might have collected over the weeks. Placing a plant or two on the porch also gives the property a homey feel, which is something a lot of prospective buyers look for as well. Make sure to sweep the porch floors because dust and debris can certainly degrade your property’s curb appeal. The front steps should be free from dust and debris as well. The outside walls should also be free of cobwebs. Make sure to do a roundabout of your porch before you put it up for sale in the market.

The second thing to look out for is paint. Nothing is as discouraging as a house whose walls are caked with cracked paint. Really, walls with cracked paint give off the atmosphere of the house being old and uncared for. You should go over the exterior walls of your house and look for spots where the paint is cracking and peeling. Make sure to repaint these areas as needed. There just might be a need to do an overall paint job for your house, but do not fret. This actually adds more value to your house in the market. So, this is an investment that will definitely pay off.

The third thing to look out for is your garden or your lawn. Make sure to take out all the weeds of your lawn prior to putting your property up for sale. You should also keep your grass trimmed to its optimum appearance. Your flowers and such should also be arranged to give your property a more appealing look for your buyers. Also, your sidewalk leading up to your property should not be overlooked. There just might be weeds growing from under the cracks of your sidewalk. Make sure to attend to them accordingly.

These are the top three ways to improve your home’s curb appeal to remember. Keep these in mind if you want to sell your property faster.
