changes a family goes through at certain point. How to pack your
stuff in such event is crucial in the transition.
Moving to another location for good, such as to a new place or a new home can be both exciting and stressful. While you are filled with so much hope and promise for your new home, you also have to face the fact that you have to fit your entire collection of memories, along with your other stuffs into loads of boxes and must haul them with you into your new place. However, worry not about this for moving, if you manage and organize it so well, can be so much fun. All it takes is the knowledge on how to pack your stuff in the most proper manner.
Here are several easy tips you can follow with regards to packing your things in preparation for a move. Like anything you venture out to, you must come in handy. Prepare with you the right supplies. Be sure to know what you need and have them all ready before you start packing. Understandably, it is always convenient and efficient to have all the necessary materials and supplies. Therefore, take the time to gather them all in so you will have a smooth flow with your packing task. If you intend to ask some help from either family members or friends, then ensure you have sufficient supplies to fill them in. You may as well double or triple everything such as boxes, black marker, old newspapers or recycled papers for wrapping fragile items, rolls and rolls of packaging tape, paper towels, masking tape, and cling wrap. You may need a lot more than these or other packing materials, these are just the basics though.
Meanwhile, in order to get the right boxes, there are two important things you have to know. First of which is, the bigger your box is, the heavier it gets when it is full. Thus, it will be back-breaking to lift in the end. Secondly, boxes with similar shape and size stack better, easier and faster. With these information in mind, use medium-sized boxes, which will not kill you once they will be filled with books and other personal belongings. Scout for a good quality supplier of uniform-sized boxes. Furthermore, if you have decided on collecting boxes to save expenses, start your collection earlier so you can gather enough to contain your possessions. But if you cannot start early or was not able to collect enough, then you just have to buy them.
In addition to keeping your boxes manageable to lift and carry, keep them light. Aim for an approximate load of 40 pounds with each of your box. After filling the box, label each one right away using your black marker so it will be easier and convenient for you to locate your things and to know what contains what. Also write on top of each box its final destination or where the contents must be placed, like the kitchen or the masters bedroom.
In wrapping all your breakable stuffs, cushion each of them with foam or crumpled papers to soften the surface preventing any breakage. Newspapers will do just fine. However, if you do not like the idea of newsprints getting into your glasses or plates, you may use paper towels or packing paper. Paper towels too can be re-used in washing mirrors and windows in your new home. Quilts and blankets as well may be used in wrapping up mirrors, larger sheets of glass and picture frames.
With your packaging tape, carefully and properly tape your boxes to eschew its contents from spilling. Secure your boxes properly. Discover the significant value of cling wraps when packing. They can be valuable tools in securing your items in place, as well as open containers and trays, keeping your treasures intact during the transit.
To make sure you pack your things right and that nothing will be missing, avoid the rush. To do this, start packing ahead, like a month or two before your actual move. It helps to do this actually. Set aside some area in your home to store your packed boxes. This certainly saves you enough time to do the other errands. In doing so, be mindful of the things that you may still need in the remaining days of your stay in your old place. Pack ahead those that the whole family will not be using for the time being. Exclude those that you are still very much in use such as few kitchen utensils and more personal belongings among others.
When it is about time to go, pack stuffs such as towels, keys, medicines, toothbrushes and other toiletries into the “unpack first” box for better comfort when you get to your awaiting new home.
